At the Family YMCA of Marion & Polk Counties, spiritual care is at the heart of community. Our chaplain, Dr. Valerie Geer, brings over 25 years of experience in Christian service and community engagement. She provides prayer, encouragement, and a listening ear to members, staff, and families from all walks of life. Whether you are seeking spiritual direction, comfort, or reflection, Valerie and our wellness team are here to walk beside you with care and grace.

About Dr. Valerie Geer

Dr. Valerie Geer brings a deep passion for serving others through her extensive background in ministry, education, and advocacy. Her heart for people and her experience in intercultural work guide her as she provides confidential spiritual support at the YMCA.

A Lifetime of Ministry

Valerie’s ministry includes 25 years of experience across Christian higher education, chapel leadership, and intercultural training. She has worked in community outreach, taught English to speakers of other languages, and provided advocacy for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Valerie holds a Doctor of Intercultural Studies (Western Seminary, 2017), a Master’s in Intercultural Studies & TESOL (Wheaton College, 2004), and a Bachelor’s in Church Ministries (Northwest University, 1999).
